Historic, iconic, timeless. Those are words that come to mind when beholding The Broadmoor resort, a historic luxury hotel, golf, spa and convention property in Colorado Springs, one of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S. Nestled at the base of the stunning Rocky Mountains and situated on 5,000 acres of luscious mountain terrain, the five-star, 784-room resort’s beauty and natural amenities have long-seduced leisure guests and event groups year after year.

“We really are the only true venue in the state that can offer a true Colorado experience,” said Curtis Robison, The Broadmoor’s director of convention sales. “The resort sits at the base of Cheyenne Mountains and Pike’s Peak, with the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. In addition, it has all of the amenities, the set-up and the modular space of big-box hotels, but with history and backing of more than 102 years…there is no other venue like this in the world that has this kind of space with a five-star rating.”

Despite its strong connection to the past, the centenarian property isn’t afraid to push forward into the future, particularly when it comes to hosting meetings and events. The Broadmoor recently debuted its new meetings and exhibition space, Bartolin Hall, which was completed June 28, 2020 but experienced a delayed opening due to COVID-19.

Offering 125,000 square feet of flexible event space, including a 93,500 sq.-ft. expo floor and 32 new breakout rooms, Bartolin Hall joins the property’s existing Broadmoor Hall (60,000 sq. ft.), International Center (16,500 sq. ft.) and Colorado Hall (15,000 sq. ft.) to form the 200,000-sq.-ft. “Convention Center at The Broadmoor.” Adding in other indoor and outdoor meeting spaces, rooms and venues throughout the property, the resort now offers a grand total of more than 315,000 sq. ft. of meeting, trade show and special event spaces for planners to choose from.

Seamlessly connected to Broadmoor Hall, Bartolin Hall features wide walkways and an integrated design, look and feel that complements the other three convention spaces as well as the overall property. Its 4,000-ft. grand foyer has large windows showcasing mountain views, its expo space features 25-foot ceilings and six loading docks, and more than 7,000 sq. ft. of outdoor terrace space is available for outdoor gatherings. Thirty-two breakout/meeting rooms are accessible from the exhibit space, including 18 on the first floor and 14 on the second-floor mezzanine.

According to Robison, the new expansion positions the resort for larger pieces of business and provides recurring events with room to grow, such as The Space Symposium. The largest aerospace convention in the world has taken place at The Broadmoor since 1984 and attracts more than 7,000 space agency, military and security professionals. The group was scheduled to hold their 36th annual event Oct. 31-Nov. 2, 2020, but due to COVID, was rescheduled to Aug. 23-26, 2021.

Robison said that the convention center has been able to host more than 350 safe and successful meetings and events during the pandemic by adhering to state and local regulations and size limits, as well as hosting some of its events in its outdoor spaces. The venue has also been busy picking up several event relocation opportunities for the fall and is garnering particular interest from corporate groups and associations, he added.

“With the addition of this new space, we can focus more on association and corporate groups,” Robison said. “Our concentration and focus right now is really on that Oct ‘21-May ’22 shoulder season timeframe. We’re carrying out social distancing on a case-by-case basis with each group, and Bartolin Hall offers plenty of space to spread out.”

The full-service convention center is also set up to accommodate hybrid meetings and events, with the infrastructure and bandwidth, as well as event, catering and audio-visual service teams ready and eager to assist with the successful execution of both in-person and digital events.

After enjoying socially distant meetings, attendees can escape to the great outdoors via The Broadmoor’s two championship golf courses, tennis and pickleball, channel their inner daredevil by ziplining above the resort’s stunning Seven Falls), or taking part in hiking excursions suitable for all levels of adventurers. 

Mountain biking, both guided experiences and self-guided, and bike rentals for individuals or groups are also available, and the resort can also help arrange picnics, movies under the stars and outdoor teambuilding exercises. 

The Broadmoor is located an hour from the Denver International Airport and is just 15 minutes away from the Colorado Springs Airport.

“We’re very optimistic on the future, and the opportunities, especially this year, have continued to increase for our convention center,” Robison said.
