Chicago’s Newly Renovated Theater on the Lake Now Open
Chicago’s Theater on the Lake complex, on the shores of Lake Michigan, reopened in January 2018 after a multi-million-dollar renovation.
Built in 1920, Theater on the Lake was redeveloped to convert the historic lakefront venue into a year-round cultural institution, with an adaptable event facility featuring the latest technology and amenities.
Located in Lincoln Park, near the Lincoln Park Conservatory and the Chicago History Museum, Theater on the Lake is just two miles north of Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. The fully enclosed event space is surrounded by six acres of green space and offers views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline.
The venue offers flexible indoor and outdoor space designed to host events ranging in size from 25 to 1500 attendees. New areas include a 250-seat theater, also used for public performances, and The Lakefront Restaurant, which can seat 125 patrons indoors and an additional 280 on the patio.
“We are excited by the unlimited possibilities that we have to offer as Chicago's newest venue,” said John Wrenn, president, Lakefront Hospitality Group.
Wrenn added, “We believe our full open floor plan and unparalleled outdoor space with incredible city and lakefront views will make Theater on the Lake an ideal venue for events of all sizes.”
Theater on the Lake has the capacity to host plated dinners for up to 500 attendees; reception-style events indoors for up to 900; and using The Lakefront Restaurant patio, East Veranda and property lawns, gatherings of up to 1500 individuals.
Theater on the Lake is a partnership between Lakefront Hospitality Group and the Chicago Park District.
